CF baseball boosts their winning record to 19-12, and sends Florida State College of Jacksonville home with another loss from the three game series. CF walked away with the win, taking away a lot of momentum sweeping a good team like FSCJ, especially after a dominating 10-0 win.
Freshman pitcher David Lebron shut FSCJ down with six shutout innings. Lebron struck out seven, walked one and only allowed five hits. Leaving FSCJ scoreless, Lebron was backed up with his offense who hammered 18 hits throughout the game, putting up 10 runs on the score board.
“Coming into the game I felt very optimistic about my team and our capabilities,” Lebron said. “After going up 2-0 in the first two games we knew we had a chance to put an exclamation point to the series with a sweep and we didn’t disappoint.”
Andrew Frazier led CF offensively as he went 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Dalton Mauldin (2-for-2), Christian Khawam (3-for-4), Justin Ambrosino (3-for-4), and Malik Tatis (3-for-4) all contributed to CF’s victory at the plate.
“It feels good to sweep a team like FSCJ,” Mauldin said. “We needed to sweep them and we did. I’m proud of my team for working as hard as we did and I look forward to us getting on a roll and finishing the season strong.”
These guys are looking to finish their season strong and be in the top two of their conference so they can make a run in the State Tournament again this year.
CF has been facing challenging teams which has given them more motivation to keep working hard to create a name for themselves. Facing these tough teams not only got them close exciting games, but also prepared them for possible tournament play in the post season.
With huge conference games coming up in April against Santa Fe and St. Johns River State College, CF will be hoping to give these teams a run for their money. CF, a threat in their conference, has outstanding offense and young pitchers that hold their own on the mound. With great character and drive, CF will be put to the test in future conference play now that the season is about half way over.
“We played good baseball all around both offensively and defensively. Now we turn the page and look to build momentum off of this series and keep the ball rolling moving forward,” Lebron said. “The way the Conference Standings are shaping up, every game that looms ahead is going to be crucial.”
CF’s next conference series will be Saturday at 1 p.m. on the road against Seminole State. But before they visit the Seminole State Raiders, CF will be hosting a game on Friday against Southeastern University’s JV team.
